The Newport Tour commences from the Bus Station at the heart of the city centre redevelopment. The centre offers the NewportMuseum and ArtGallery, the Newport Provisions Market, the Newport Clock, the Castle and for more information the Tourist Information Centre. As the tour moves over NewportBridge it travels past the new Riverfront Theatre (award winning architectural building), the SteelWave (a symbol of Newport’s steel and sea history), The Old Green Mural depicting the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company (key to Newport’s growth in the 19th century) and the Castle remains.
Next stop is St Julians and then onto Caerleon, the home of many Roman artefacts. The tour passes the Fwrrwm Arts Centre, Roman Fortress Baths and RomanLegionaryMuseum. Heading down Broadway the Roman Amphitheatre and Barracks are well worth exploring.
Leaving Caerleon the tour travels up Belmont Hill reaching the Christchurch Viewpoint giving wonderful views across the River Usk towards Abergavenny. Views across the River Severn towards Somerset and Devon can be seen on the left hand side after leaving the Viewpoint.
On our way to Tredegar House and CountryPark, the ancestral home of the Morgan family, we pass the world famous Newport Transporter Bridge (and one of only three in the ). The CountryPark has 90 acres of parks and gardens, and a tour of the Tredegar House is recommended.
Returning towards Newport the tour travels pass the main recreational part of TredegarPark along with the UK Office for National Statistics and Patent Office. Climbing up the hill past BelleVuePark the tour reaches the 12th Century Norman Church known as St Woolos Cathedral before dropping down into Newport passing close by the Civic Centre and Railway Station. The tour returns to the Bus Station.
