Turin
If you prefer to feel the atmosphere of the past and the splendour of Torino as the capital in the wonderful Royal Residences, visit the rich homes of the Savoy dynasty, declared a “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO in 1997. Both outside and in the city, you can admire sumptuous buildings and furnishings.
First of all, there are those that overlook piazza Castello: the majestic Royal Palace, designed by Castellamonte, is still considered to be one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe and Palazzo Madama , with the entrance hall and monumental staircase designed by the great architect Filippo Juvarra ,that hosts the Museum of Ancient Art reopened in december 2006 after 19 years of restoration works.
Torino is also the Italian capital of contemporary art with institutions that are recognised all over the world, such as GAM, the Castle of Rivoli-Museum of Contemporary Art, the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation and the Merz Foundation, all venues that host major exhibitions and extraordinary permanent collections.
In addition, it only takes a walk through the city to discover contemporary works by artists of international fame.
