Our widely recognised tourism brands has just been introduced in Derry, Northern Ireland.
The City Sightseeing tour offers a commentary guided tour of the city seven days a week and has already created 15 jobs including posts for drivers and mechanics, at its new offices in John Street.
Local businessman and tour operator Ruairi O’hEara, , said: “We’re trying to show we have faith in the City of Culture legacy and the future of the tourist industry here.
“We are bringing a world franchise to the banks of the Foyle.”
Mr. O’hEara described the move as both “a huge risk and a huge investment.”
“We have a long way to go to recoup that investment but we are confident, very confident of making this a success,” he said.
He added that the City Sightseeing Tours service will offer open top double deck buses providing tours of the entire city using state of the art commentary systems to deliver exclusive content via GPS triggered technology.
“The content is multi lingual and is currently narrated in seven different languages,” he said.
“Tours leave hourly from 10am-4pm seven days a week. Passengers will be able to hop on/hop off.
“We also play an active role in our community, organising tailor made trips which are both educational and entertaining for local schools and community groups.
“We have been inspired by prestigious events such as, the Fleadh Ceoil and The Turner Prize, to bring this great product to the town we love so well.”
The tours incorporates the Walled City, the political murals, Apprentice Boy’s Memorial Hall, the Siege of Derry (1688-1689), the story of emigration from Derry’s Port, and more modern political history.
